Tool selection means that the tool magazine automatically moves the tool to be used to the tool change position according to the tool selection command (or information), completes the tool selection process, and prepares for the next tool change. Next, install the selected tool on the spindle.

The special feature of this tool change is that the new tool to be used and the used tool are grasped at the same time. That is to say, the tool grasping and tool changing are carried out at the same time, so compared with other tool changing methods, it has the characteristics of faster tool changing speed and smaller movement range of each mechanical element. It is the most popular way of changing tools.
